Find Out How Being a Social Media Marketer May Be the Right Job for You!

Are you a young person who don’t like working in a boring 9-5 office job? Where the job gets really mind-numbing, and are surrounded by possibly uninteresting people? Are you looking for a job that’s fun, stimulating, and doesn’t suck the life out of you?

Have you tried being a social media marketer before? A job where it is less likely you are needed in the office during stipulated workdays and fulfilling its required work hours.

Young people, or millennials in general, have received a lot of flak at the workplace. They are blamed for not able to concentrate or unable to produce quality work. More often than not, millennials are stereotyped to want the workplace to fit into their personal needs and not the company’s needs.

To remedy this, be a social media marketer. Oftentimes, you have the flexibility and autonomy over what, where and when you want to do. As long as you get the job done, you are good.

Here are reasons why you should be a social media marketer.

The Advantages

Free Samples of the Latest Products and Services

This is one of the benefits that appeals to social media marketers and influencers. The free samples of the products and services they will be working on for a review. Usually it comes in the forms of products – like make-up products, electronic devices loaned for 1 month usage, invitation to try out a new café in town, etc. At times it can be invitation to product launch where you will be invited to cover the event.

Once successfully marketed on social media platforms, you will be rewarded. Sometimes you can be rewarded in forms of vouchers, more free samples, and whatnot.

Fan Adoration

Some people live for their egos to be stroke by the masses. One way they do it is to be a social media marketing.

How so? Well, social media marketing and social media influencer are not too different in reality. You promote products and services and such to your established followers. It’s the whole point of being a social media marketer. You are to help your clients sell their stuffs to your followers, advocate and all.

The follower and fan base is what fuel these people’s egos. They live for that. It gets them going. If you like all that attention, the fan adoration and whatnot, being a social media marketer is the right job for you.

Flexible Working Hours

Another aspect some people dig. If you are someone who hates mundane office jobs and office hours, try being a social media marketer. You don’t necessarily have to sit in a cubicle wearing a tie. You don’t have to come in to office on time, looking sharp and whatnot.

Being a social media marketer means you are allowed to choose to work remotely, especially when you are attached to a company. You can choose to work in the comforts of your home, or in a café. Your hours may be flexible if your company allows. It really depends.

If you are not attached to a company and go solo, your working hours are even more flexible. You also don’t have to worry about taking off-days since you work for yourself. Want to take 2 days straight off? Go ahead. Want to work at 2am? Sure, why not! It’s all about having autonomy over your work.

All it matters is you schedule your posts at optimum times to garner traffic. You don’t need to force yourself to sit in front of your computers or laptops for a fixed number of hours just to complete your work.

Not many jobs give you this much amount of freedom.

Rubbing Shoulders With Famous People

This really depends in all honesty.

You will most likely meet people in the same industry who has already make it big. You’ll meet them in conventions (if there is one held in your area), or during launching events. At times they may ask to do collaborations with you some time in the future.

Also to speak, if you are doing social media marketing for bigger companies, and you’ve made it big, you’d most likely meet well-known people. CEOs, board of directors, founders, celebrities, all you can think of it’s quite likely. The possibilities are endless.

Telling Friends and Family You Love Doing This

In a sense you are telling them this, mostly because only a small percentage of people are able to tell their friends and family they love what they are doing. You can hear people telling what they do, but it’s not often you hear them say they love their jobs.

Yes, there are times where you won’t hear how people tell you openly they love their jobs. People either keep quiet about their jobs, or tell you how much they hated it.

Being a social media marketer, it’s less so in a sense that you get all that autonomy over your work. You can even choose who you want to be a social media marketer for even. Most jobs don’t have that kind of freedom.

The Downfalls

Being a social media marketer isn’t all glitter and sunshine. It has its own pitfalls too. You will have to be prepared and accept the disadvantages that come with it.

Time Consuming

If you want to venture into social media marketing, it will take a lot of your time and energy to make it work. In a sense that you do not and will not see immediate results overnight. It may take at least 4 to 6 months for you to see some kind of results generated from your work.

By 6 months, sometimes you may not even see results from all that effort you put in. It can get pretty disappointing sometimes.

You may have to put up with facing your clients sometimes when you don’t produce results. Just be prepared if you don’t show results by end of 6 months.

Having Competitors

Every industry has competitors, whether you like it or not. Social media marketing is no stranger to such pitfalls. Furthermore, we see plenty of social media marketers popping up like mushrooms. It’s starting to become very common.

That also means your content will pretty much thin out, as whatever you plan to do has already been done. You will need to be very creative and be volatile in ideas. Just don’t let the competition sizzle you dry.

Conclusion

Social media marketing is nothing new. If you feel you are not up for 9-5 jobs, this may be the answer to what you want as a career. After all, opportunities come to those who look for it.
